Paris Hilton Starts Serving Jail Time

TMZ was there when Paris Hilton turned herself in to Sheriff’s authorities Sunday night.

It didn’t go down at the jail. Paris’ mega-lawyer, Richard Hutton, picked her up at her parents’ house at 10:30 PM. Hilton, Hutton, mom Kathy and sister Nicky then drove to the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles — commonly referred to as the Twin Towers — where Paris officially surrendered to the L.A. County Sheriff to begin her 23-day sentence.

The Sheriff devised the plan of surrendering miles away from the actual site where Paris will be doing time because the crush of paparazzi at the jail created a potential safety hazard.

Paris was then driven to the jail in Lynwood, where she is now serving her sentence.

Earlier in the evening, Hilton left her house for the MTV Music Awards. After appearing on the red carpet, Hilton went to her parents’ house for a brief time, then left with her lawyer to face the music.

Law enforcement officials tell TMZ the plans for Paris have changed. Although they had pre-screened a woman who was designated her cell mate, for the time being Hilton will be in solitary 23 out of 24 hours every day. The one hour that she’s out, she’s not really out. Hilton will be allowed to shower, use a phone and watch TV in a small pod adjacent to her cell.

Paris’ lawyer just released a statement to TMZ from Hilton: “I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes.”

Hilton added, “This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence.”

Paris Hilton Looking Gorgeous In Booking Photos

Here’s Paris … just a couple hours after turning herself in to authorities to report for her 23-day jail sentence. Note that Paris is already sporting her brand new white jail uniform.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department just released the official mug shot for Ms. Hilton, and despite a long night — and an even longer day before it — all chronicled by, Paris managed a smile for the camera.

Paris surrendered herself to authorities just a few hours ago, as TMZ showed you exclusively — and we’ll be on the story all day long.

UPDATE: TMZ has learned that the other Paris Hilton mugshot, which was released by the sheriff’s department earlier this morning, was not taken when she checked in last night. We’re still trying to determine exactly when the photo was taken.

Paris Hilton Will Be Alone In Her Jail Cell

Paris Hilton has her jail cell all to herself … for now.

After turning herself over to the authorities late Sunday night, Ms. Hilton is finally behind bars at a county jail in Lynwood. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore says the heiress has been “cooperative and calm” since her arrival. Whitmore says Hilton has been booked and fingerprinted, and will be spending the rest of the night in a cell by herself.

The spokesman added, “She’ll be fine … if she follows the rules.”

    Missin’ Paris Hilton Days!

Paris had one wild weekend — hitting up all the Hilton hotspots before turning herself in for a 23-day jail sentence.

Ms. Hilton was everywhere and the paparazzi followed her wherever she went. Family dinner at Mr. Chow — check. Night out at Parc with sister Nicky — check. Workout at Crunch Gym — check.

The jailbird even had an impromptu photo shoot at the Coffee Bean where, decked out in a floral dress and an oversized sun hat, a mocha-holding Paris struck poses as photogs complimented her every move.

Unfortunately for Paris, no sun hats allowed at Lynwood, where the wardrobe consists of an orange jumpsuit … and the food there — let’s just say there’s no chicken dumplings on the menu.

Paris Hilton First Meal: Cereal Juice, and Bread

Paris Hilton had her first meal in jail and — well, let’s just say, it ain’t gourmet grub. The hotel heiress, according to Sheriff’s Dept. spokesman Steve Whitmore, had cereal, bread, and juice.

Meanwhile, Paris is getting some unsolicited advice from a former inmate at the jail, where she surrendered to authorities in the wee hours this morning, as TMZ showed you exclusively this morning.

Susannah Johnson, released Saturday after a one-day stay at the Century Regional Detention Facility, tells the AP, “The only advice I could give her when she comes is to shut her mouth and do the time.” Johnson says that some inmates are already angry at Paris because they think her arrival is making the over-crowding problem at the jail worse that it already is.

Meanwhile, at the MTV Movie Awards, Paris’ jail time was an easy punching bag for host Sarah Silverman and presenters, and the L.A. Times observes that the hotel heiress looked “near tears” when the crowd at the show “lustily cheered” a proposal that she be sent off to jail early — which she did anyway, with a smile on her face.

Sarah Silverman’s Hate Comments About Paris Hilton On MTV Movie Awards

I thought I would have to add the word “Hater” before the name “Sarah Silverman” in the title, but I decided not to, because I’m not convinced that Sarah is personally a hater of Paris. She seemed shocked by the reaction of the crazy and soulless mob.

I looked at the video several times, and I can almost say that it definitely is scripted. First of all, it’s quite a shame that MTV would allow such comments to made live on TV. That’s simply not acceptable, in my opinion.

Second, the crowd who appeared to be more hateful of Paris than Sarah should also be ashamed of themselves, but that’s not surprising because the public has no shame when it comes to rich, famous and pretty celebrities, especially someone like Paris.

However, I have to tell you I don’t feel very bad about this for two reasons.

A: To me, the comments Paris made before this incident are a lot more intelligent and richer than the scripted comments of Sarah.

B: I’m not too sure how Paris felt when she was listening to Sarah. Haters obviously are pointing out that it made her feel bad, but did it really? The first shot shows us that she is slightly smiling, but the second one either looks like she is pissed off or just wants to show that she can take it as a joke. I’m inclinded to think that her attitude is the latter.

Haters always forget that Paris never takes herself too seriously, and doesn’t always mind when people make fun of herself, but there’s a limit to this.

The video is obviously not funny and Sarah went too far. She shouldn’t have agreed to do this.

But what the hell, I feel much better after hearing Paris’ wise interview!

The media isn’t tell us if Paris Hilton left after Sarah’s speech. Does anyone know if she did?
