Paris Hilton and Benji Madden break up (after 9 months)

Confirmed Report

Paris Hilton and her boyfriend of nine months, Benji Madden, have broken up. Hilton publicist Alanna McCarthy said Wednesday that the two “remain very good friends.” She wouldn’t say more.

The pair split a few days ago after more than nine months of dating, a source close to Hilton tells PEOPLE.

“She is saddened by the breakup but they’re just too different and they wanted different things in life,” says a source close to Hilton. “He was loyal and sweet but it was time to take a break.”

Just to be sure, Stavros Niarchos is not the reason for the break up:

On Nov. 15, Paris was photographed getting cozy with ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos at nightspot Mokai in Miami. The Hilton friend says the two were simply engaged in a close but friendly conversation. “In no way are they romantic, nor do they want to get back together,” the source says.

well i am honestly concerned for paris if she really is upset about this, but as very much expected from the beginning, this was never going to last. either benji was a willing or unwilling participant in a well-planned/played image enhancment strategy or just plain wrong for her from the begining.

they’re too opposite. paris is a unique and special free-spirit who has never been afraid to take risks, while benji is a safe, conformist playing at being a “tat-boy” GC is basically a boy band with tattoos, posing at being edgy. all show, hardly any go. No originality whatsoever. I’m sure he may be a good friend to paris, but life partner, no way. he’d always hold her back.

paris deserves better. she had to try and remake her image since last year and i don’t blame her. she’s been trying to project herself as less wild (in public anyway) to combat the unfair charachterizations of her by her critics. i always understood that.

but paris has never been boring. she was always on the cutting edge and willing to take risks. while it’s unfortuante american society, due to the religous right, attacks young women who are free spirits, no young woman should cave in so much to give up herself.

paris is awesome and owes nobody any apologies for anything she’s done in her life. and she deserves a really great guy with plenty of personality and equal zest for life that truly compliments her unique and special personality.

cardboard, boring, poser benji just isn’t it. he suffocated her to the point that she was becoming lifeless around him.

Go, Paris, you rock!

I’m sad because they seemed so happy together. I support Paris in whatever it is she wants to be happy in life. I never felt that Paris was being held back and I still feel the relationship seemed a good one from the side the public seen at least and from how happy Paris seemed with him. I hope the breakup won’t be too hard on Paris and I hope haters won’t be making a big circus of her feelings at the moment.

I’m pretty sure it was about she wanting to start a family and stuff. It fits to the “they wanted different things in life” explication. I just hope they ended it friendly. I now it was not the kind of “Let’s end this”-“Okay” situation, but I hope it wasn’t a terrible break-up for neither of them.

They looked so happy together, I wasn’t expecting this at all this sudden. :/

In addition to what I said earlier…

I’ve seen reports that he was apparently too controlling and tried to boss Paris around (and didn’t think she should drink). If that kind of thing is true, then obviously Paris was right to want to move on. I want Paris to be happy but I don’t want anyone bossing her around or restricting her from being who she is.

If the relationship was a happy one though, as it seemed to be, then it seems a shame that the problems weren’t ones that could be talked through or worked on.

“seemed so happy” hmm?

well they both always SAID that. alot. but when did we ever see any pictures of them even laughing together or just having fun? i don’t even remember there ever being a completely candid shot of them together enjoying themselves.

maybe some pap video of them walking about stone-faced or some moments in BFF, but otherwise no. every photo of them was at least semi-staged with them posing together. paris never looked radiant next to him. his negative energy was clearly bringing her down.

and benji always has the same mug pasted on his face , even when he’s with other people, like his brother. there he is. lifeless. straight, tight mouth, jutted out face, vacant stare/glare or sunglassed enscounced eyes! i mean every shot he’s ever taken, it’s the same thing. he tries to look bad-ass and fails!

c’mon benji, at least try and be real, give up trying to play the role already. real rock stars never play that way. they just are!

well at least we can go back to this site being all about paris and not benji!

juju,

You know this site doesn’t really cover Paris and Benji news, unless if something big happens. I’ve put a “ban” on myself (at least, limit myself) from posting any news related to Benji or any of her boyfriends, even though I know you guys would disagree with this ban. I’m bias, I know. The thing is that I really find this topic boring… and also because it attracts a lot of attention. But you guys are always free to discuss about it here, of course!

I mean, is the topic of Paris and Benji (or any other boyfriend) more interesting than say, Repo! or Paris BFF, in general? I think the media and most people would say yes, but I strongly disagree.

This is why bias PHS fan site focuses more on her project first and foremost.

But I really do hope that one day, Paris will find Mr 200% Right.

I don’t know if I’m supposed to comment what with the ban and all before this, but I’m here to comment so here goes.

It could be BS, but from what I read Benji’s not happy about her being off on her own in England doing “My BFF” there.

I do feel so sad for Paris. She is such a romantic and can’t seem to find the one.

But since it is officially over, as a fan of her art I hope this means Paris will devote more time to her music. So when is that album coming out?

Finally, I guess we really should be happy for FallenMorgan. Time to get back up and make your move now, FM. Cheers!

PS I think Paris needs a man who’s strong but mainly strong for her. You have to understand that despite what the haters say, Paris is a superstar. You have to bring the fun, romance and understanding, always treat her right, and never forget how lucky you are.

enkil,

nothing i said was directed at you. i’m very sorry if i hurt yur feelings.

i am also much more interested in paris and her projects than any guy she is dating. i didn’t care for benji because i felt he distracted from that.

so again, i’m sorry to offend and i do love your site.

thank you!

juju,

Not at all!!! Why would you think you offended me or hurt my feelings?! I don’t see any offending comments!

Anyway, I was just saying that the media/people, unlike many PHS fans, give too much attention to the Paris and Benji relationship, and that I generally find this subject very boring (just an opinion)! That’s all!

Paris Hilton on Benji Madden: ‘I’m Still in Love With Him’
ET, Nov. 21, 2008, 12:12 PM EST

Paris Hilton held nothing back “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” today, saying she’s still in love with ex-boyfriend Benji Madden. Paris also explained why the couple broke up.

“Right now we’re just taking a break. We’re really good friends, we’re really close,” she says. “I love him, he’s such an amazing man. He’s my best friend. He’s been so great to me … I’m still in love with him.”

Paris says the split was mutual. “I think right now we’re just better off as friends. We’re both working so much, I’ve been traveling, he’s been working non-stop in the studio with his brother on a new record.”

She also cleared the air on rumors surrounding their breakup, saying, “There’s all these reports saying I dumped Benji, that’s not true. This was a decision we made together as two adults.” She says reports that she’s been snuggling up to her other ex, Stavros Niarchos III, are “ridiculous.”

The two were snapped saying hello in Miami, but she insists they’re just friends and that she has no interest in him. “[Benji] is not a jealous person,” she added. “I’ve never been treated so well in my life.”

PS Paris talks a bit about Repo! as well w/Seacrest, how some people are making pilgrimages in order to see this film.

Paris looks gorgeous, and seems calm if somewhat reserved in the video.

Paris gives Benji a bigger PR boost than visa versa, therefore time for break up
