Brenden Theatres Was Packed For The Hottie And The Nottie

Okay, so I can now confirmed that Paris Hilton wasn’t alone (or with a few people) during the screening of the Hottie and the Nottie on her birthday. So it appears that Faded Youth Blog made a bad assumption, but I’ll tell you what happened.

Paris arrived 40 minutes late. They didn’t wait for her; they just played the movie as scheduled a few minutes later. Personally, I think the whole idea of being fashionably late isn’t kewl anymore. I think I know why she lets this happen, but I still find it rude, and it upsets a lot of people who wait for her.

Anyway, so who was present at the theater? According to Richard Abowitz who, as reported, was invited to the screening of “Hottie”: “[Among the audience] were the president of the Luxor, a managing partner of Pure Management Group (owners of — among other hotspots — LAX and Pure), the owner of the movie theater and a number of other people who don’t usually wait in Las Vegas for anything, ever.” Palms owner George Maloof, who arrived late was also there. And some “frontline employees from the Vegas nightlife industry,” too.

Abowitz thought the movie was absolutely awful. Strange. I haven’t seen it yet, but I really don’t think it’s that bad. Actually, I have a feeling that the Abowitz types seriously don’t like romantic comedy films. I really have to see the movie myself before judging it. Maybe it’s time to download it?

So according to Abowitz, at the end, everyone wildy applauded, but he senses that no one really liked it. In his opinion, they were just being nice to Paris by supporting it. Then, Abowitz concludes that Paris Hilton is someone very important in Las Vegas because she attracts crowds to these people’s nightclubs. Therefore, this is the reason why the nightclub workers and bosses were showing support.

He wrote: “I think the nightclub workers were being compensated or required by their bosses to be at the screening. (They admitted that they were watching the movie as part of their job. But they would not tell me what, if any, specific bribe brought them to see “The Hottie and the Nottie.”)”

I suggest you to read his article to get the whole story. It is pretty interesting, by the way.

If Abowitz’ article is truthful and accurate, then this explains a lot of things that we’ve discussed about, but it is still possible that the audience didn’t like the movie (not necessarily because of Paris’ acting skills, but because of the genre or story).

(sorry! my other comment stuffed up!)

You have so much faith in this movie don’t you?
I respect that, I really do but we’ve got to remember although most critics have attacked this movie because Paris is in it they still honestly know a bad movie from a good movie regardless of who’s in it… The Hottie and the Nottie is one of those bad movies.
Everyone who has seen it and hasn’t hated it has said it’s alright… basically one of those meh movies that you probably won’t ever see again or remember much of.
We also have to remember Paris filmed it over a year ago, her acting skills still would be quite… well… they wouldn’t be very developed. But since that whole jail issue she has been taking it serious and doing a lot of drama classes and such so I think we should maybe forget about the monstrosity that was “The Hottie and the Nottie” and focus on upcoming, positive projects (Like Repo! The Genetic Opera etc.) Because going on about how you have faith about the movie and how the reviews are all so bad is a little bit cringe worthy… it is great you have faith in her movie, I mean we all do, we’re true fans of Paris but all these Hottie reminders of how terrible it’s doing is just painful.. I understand that you have got to update, especially this one since it was a special thing but have a whole site-bit dedicated to this movie and the banners and such is just a bit too painful to look at.

I must sound like a total jerk that makes no sense.
Sorry, I’m not trying to offend or anything,
I do appreciate everything you do at this site it’s just… it’s like sticking a knife into an open wound.

Hey mr scot,

I completely understand what you’re saying. It’s just that I don’t follow or listen how/what the general public thinks. Not because I want to ignore them, but because I do things differently with this site.

Even if it had grossed 0$ at the box office and is one of those meh movies, I would still have created a section for it and put banners, etc. I really do this mostly for myself because I enjoy documenting everything. I also want to show the public the other side of Paris, even if they don’t care. Well, it’s hard to explain, but since Paris considers this as a serious project, I have to do it.

Henceforth, every serious and major project, whether it becomes a success or not, will have a special section dedicated to it because they’re all part of her work.

I also try to be as fair as possible. I don’t think it’s wrong to point out that the movie failed badly or what went wrong. Constructive criticism will help Paris see reality and learn from her mistakes.

I’m going to remove the Hottie banner very soon and finish the Hottie section today. We’ll then concentrate on Repo! 🙂

I understand what Mr Scot is saying. It’s hard to suffer the slings and arrows f all the Paris haters piling on right now.

I myself have no interest in seeing TH&TN, I have no problem w/admin promoting it. I commend him. Because while it the flick is likely to be bad, it is being hated on horribly, and that’s just not right. there is no way it’s that bad.

It is ranked No. 1 as the worst movie all time on IMDB. Just as a sick joke. You would think it was a snuff film. Or “Triumph of The Will.”

I admire Paris for all the promotion she did on this dog. She has so much guts. And it’s not her fault. The director did a horrible job.

Thanks for plugging that article, admin. I appreciate all your extensive research. you bring it. Like Paris.

Here’s my comment I posted at the LA Times in reaction to the article, & all the outrageously nasty comments listed there, in reaction to it, & Paris.

(What Would Jesus Say About “The Crimes Of Paris?”) I wish I found the hate and self-righteous outrage funny. Over Paris Hilton. How pathetic, classless, gutless, & boring.

There’s so many online devoted haters, it seems to me that most people in this world must never ever make a mistake, and must be just oh so totally perfect. & only they get to decide who gets any love & respect. For if you don’t live up to their perfect standards, then you get hated-on forever, case closed.

Alexander Pope wrote, “to err is human, to forgive divine.” Jesus must just be a ghost because forgiveness is on vacation. Oh how it must be so cool to choose not to forgive, to withhold love, and instead be a snob, a holier than thou, a diva hata, a mean person, a buzzkiller. To thrive on the cheap thrill of spewing jealous venom 24/7.

Well, to me anyone who hates another person, who hates-on a celeb who has never hurt anyone, is far from fucking perfect. Love is as close to perfection as you’re going to get. “I’m talking about love.” To show hate has become so in fashion, is so expected, so cliché. Therefore then to forgive, to let live, to show love to another, actually shows balls, “muchos huevos grandes.” L.o.v.e. is so much more damn punk than h.a.t.e. And this is coming from an old punk rocker.

Thus the most over-hated are just naturally the most underrated. & so it is that the first shall be last & the lass shall be a blast! Paris is a She of the First Degree. The more she is hated-on, the more I will always love her all ways…

Just for that reason alone, if none else. But there are plenty of other reasons Paris inspires me. Yes, you read right – inspires. I happen to think that Paris is an entertainer, an excellent model, and “Paris” was the best album of 2006. (I’m not interested in The Hottie & The Nottie, but then the genre is not my cup of tea. I am holding out to see how she does in “Repo!” due out in April.)

I don’t need Paris to sing songs about politics. I do my own investigations for that. I write about politics. I want entertainment & Paris brings it. “She just shows up.” …Like a showgirl. She may be fashionably late, but she’s been showing up night after night, for years on end. To put on a show. And she shows up despite wave after wave of abuse, and endless death-wishes, that follow in her wake.

The woman works it. She does not just show up. Those people don’t fill the clubs when she’s there just because she’s there. She is a fantastic host. Even when she is not scheduled as such. She gets out in front, sings, dances, urges on the crowd. She’s the best hostess there is.

Do we all have to live our lives so everyone else will look up to us? At all times? Should we look up to Clooney, 24/7? Even when he makes “Oceans 111”?

In this PC world, is hatred of others PC? If an entertainer is not your cup of tea, move on to someone who is. No one tells this punk who I can or cannot like. There are lots of entertainers out there who don’t do it for me, but I don’t go around hating on them.

As for Mr. Abowitz, what a very well-written, intelligent article. And that you take the time to comment back on reader’s attacks, I commend you. “…As a party trick, I can sing Shakespeare’s sonnets to the collected melodies of Minor Threat.” …Brilliant. Ask any “obviously 5 believers” and they will tell you I am but a minor threat, and “out of step with the world.” I am unashamed. “Let them say more that like of hearsay well;/ I will not praise that purpose not to sell.” (Sonnet XXI)

I appreciate that you didn’t take out the hatchet to give the expected & in demand, 40 whacks to Paris. At a time when the country is fighting a War of Terror, the American media & general public apparently feels left out so it collectively & openly pines to wage a Reign of Terror on Hollywood celebs. Paris is not Marie Antoinette. Besides, I’d say in the end, Marie was treated unfairly. But then I would say that about such a misogynist world.

I only suggest next time you go to a club when Paris is hosting, hang around & then advise as to whether she just showed up.

If reviews were average to lukewarm (with the odd complete love or hate), then maybe I’d think the critics were doing their job and possessing the qualities of balance, fairness and applying a critical eye. The fact that so many want to completely trash what is probably an inoffensive average romantic comedy shows something else entirely. If the genre of the movie isn’t to their liking, then they could say that but as critics they should still be able to do their jobs. We’ve seen a lot of clips of the movie here on this site and it doesn’t look anywhere near the worst movie I’ve ever seen or any worse than a lot of other lightweight comedies/romantic comedies.

Some people on IMDB thought it would be a jolly wheeze to get everyone to get the movie voted as the worst movie on the site. That proves nothing except for how malicious and pathetic some people can be, and how easily led others can be in their wake (similarily while Pledge This certainly isn’t a brilliant movie by any means, I don’t believe it’s in the bottom 100 at IMDB on it’s own lack of merit alone – again I’ve seen far worse movies myself).

I really feel sorry for Paris. I know nothing stops her enjoying herself and she’s always moving onwards to more projects. But she’s put all this work and goodwill into making and promoting this movie and was excited for people to see it. Only for the movie to be all but completely ignored by everyone but critics who take malicious glee in tearing it apart (and people who want to vote it the worst movie ever probably without seeing it). I know it’s nothing compared to how a lot of people acted over Paris’s jail sentence, but it’s still an indictment of just how low and hateful some people can be.

Here here, Django. I’m with you. It is one thing for these celeb-hater sites and columnists bashing Paris and her work. But critics are supposed to be objective. But it’s just hatchet-jobs on parade.

Here’s a brutal example. This is the start of a review in The Boston Globe, the city’s most prestigious newspaper, by the movie “critic” Ty Burr:

“The problem with “The Hottie and the Nottie” is – wait, let me start again. The most crippling of the many problems afflicting “The Hottie and the Nottie” is the radical disconnect between the title and our perception of the movie’s star. I’m not sure on what planet Paris Hilton is considered “hot” – one that involves hazmat suits and tongs, possibly – but it hasn’t been Earth for some time.

This may not be fair. For all I know, Hilton is in reality a demure young thing who spends her spare time contemplating String Theory while knitting fingerwarmers for the lepers of Molokai. Her indelible public persona, however, is that of a – what’s the word? Oh, yes: skank. A rich, brainless, clueless skank.”
__

It goes on and on. Here’s how it ends:

“Then there’s Hilton. She delivers her lines in an unmodulated near-whisper and keeps her head lowered, gazing up at Nate as if she’d learned Acting Position #1 and then dropped the class. The film poses her in a succession of bikinis, mini-tops, and short shorts, none of which give her the presence necessary to actually hold the screen. Her head seems too small for her body and stuck on at an odd angle. She resembles nothing so much as a tiny blond velociraptor.

That’s cruel, I know, but one’s mind wanders when a movie’s evaporating up there on the screen. More crucially, there’s not a whit of mystery to Hilton, as there must be for any proper movie star. How can there be mystery when she’s everywhere in our culture, from reality shows to Internet sex videos to tabloid websites to perfumes and other personal brand extensions? With all her wealth and meaningless celebritude, Hilton is incapable of doing the one thing most of us desperately wish she would do: Go away.”

Just FYI: As a follow-up to my comment to the LA Times, I went back to check on it. I alas did not get a comment back from Mr. Abowitz — very disappointing. And no one addressed attested as to whether our Miss Hilton just shows up at clubs or actually brings it, as I not only claim but know to be true.

But I did get a personal attack, to which I answered. Here we go now…

Someone give Hula Girl her own blog! Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Bonnie | February 20, 2008 at 02:16 PM

Here now is what I wrote back:

Yeah, give Hula Hoop AND Bonnie a blog as apparently neither of them have a website. Oh, but then again neither do any of the other haters here. Either that or they’re all afraid to show who they really are.

And I do not work for Paris Hilton, though I would be proud to do so. I am a fan of her, as it says so quite clearly in my post above. And since you went to my website, apparently you didn’t pay much attention when you were there, as it is quite obvious I do not believe in God or religion.

Just setting the record straight. I am a healthy 49. I am not consumed by hate or lies. Just swallow your tongue then, Hula Poop.

I prefer a feast of fans of love and truth, over the big family of hatred, jealousy and lies.

I’m one of those people who actually SAW the movie and I think it is a good movie.

Mr. scott or whoever it is that posts here under different names is entitled to his/her opinions but they are simply wrong.
This movie may yet do quite well as it goes around the globe.

The hatred and envy exhibited toward Paris Hilton on some blogs which perpetually publish half-truths or outright lies borders on insanity.
