Judi Debella And Plagiarized Poem Issue Lives On

Months later, this issue about a plagiarized poem has not being solved yet. Remember when we were covering about Judi Debella and her poem?

If you don’t remember her, read this section. To make the long story short: Judi Debella claims that the poem she sent to Paris Hilton was plagiarized by Paris. Paris read her poem on TV during her interview with Larry King, and specifically said she wrote it. Judi Debella wants to be recognized for her work.

Now, there’s almost no doubt that Judi is not lying about this. She’s still giving interviews on radio shows, etc. However, she recently said in an email that she doesn’t get paid for doing this.

Till this day, I don’t know what Paris was thinking when she said she wrote the poem on air and made us all believe that it was something creative coming from her. I just find that disappointing and not right. Whether she consciously or unconsciously plagiarized the poem, I really can’t say, but I hope Judi Debella will keep us updated.

Here’s the email that Judi sent to ParisHiltonSite.net this week:

As things have somewhat settled down and life moves on, I have had a little more time to think, it’s been quite a whirlwind since that Larry King interview with Paris. I myself the other day just did another radio interview regarding this situation with Katie a reporter from TMZ on the Keeler in the Morning Show 92.7, and again refused to attack Paris on any level but simply told the story. As I said I’ve had a little more time to think and absorb what’s happened, so on Nov. 28, 2007 I decided, yes to write Paris another letter, except this one was a 6 page in depth letter explaining the situations and circumstances that led me up to writing her and where the inspiration for those words came from. I don’t ever imagine i’ll get a response regarding this situation but felt I needed her to know the reasons why and why I stepped to the media. As with all my letters to Paris there is always an opening that I’ll share with you, never know where it may turn up: “I believe God brings together the most unlikely people puts together the most unusual situations to fulfill a bigger and greater plan and though it may not make sense at the time someday it will unfold, I too believe that somehow, someway, for some reason we are all connected by a moment in time.

Paris said that she was reading from her own notes. However, she also said that she had forgotten to bring a journal that she had kept. Maybe she just got confused.

To be honest, it was nice, but I wouldn’t wage a months long campaign about it either way.

Good grief, a religious nut!

If Paris tried to pass something off as her own, then I have no idea why she did it either, but I can’t hold it against her, as I know she’s a good person in so many other ways and instances (however noone likes being forced to admit their errors and the media would have a field day with this). But phony plagiarism cases do get brought up from time to time.

i’m beginning to think this judi lady is a nut. Why is she continuing to try so hard to publically link herself to Paris?

I mean really now, who writes so many, highly personal letters to a celebrity without expecting something in return or fancying themselves as part of the star’s personal life somehow? This is all very strange. I can see why paris isn’t responding. I don’t think it’s because she’s guilty, I think it’s because her security team has probably advised her against engaging this judi-nut. Remember, Paris has been victimized by stalkers before.

judi’s having her cake and eating it too. She claims to be altruistic enough not to bash paris directly, however, just by continuing to go to the media and making a point of it, she is hurting paris and making a name for herself in the process. very cagey indeed. exactly what recognition does she want?

if she wanted her great work published, she should have contacted a publisher instead of using Paris to make her words of wisdom public. i think Judi just wants exposure for herself and she knows anything involving paris will make headlines, especially if it’s in the least bit negative or scandalous.

paris clearly did the larry king interview before she was ready. no way she should have spoken to anyone for at least a few weeks after getting out of jail. that was a highly traumatic experience and she just needed time to recover. I can see how she became confused, as she was flipping through the notes after larry prompted her to read more than she had planned. I think she just made a mistake.

Any time in jail is highly traumatic. Any psychiatric professional will tell you that people who have been incarcerated for any length of time will never completely recover from the experience. Given our “lock’em up and throw away the key mentality” of late, we have become annestitized to how really terrible jail is to people and the damage done to their psyche.

Let’s not forget that for paris especially as a high profile inmate, the experience was indeed life threatening. Also, given the unfairness of the whole ordeal, it s even more damaging. She needs a long time and some counseling that i hope she is getting in private in order to heal. But again, no one is ever really the same after being in prison or jail even if it’s only a few days.

If this judi lady is not a nut and only wants the best for paris, then she would let it drop and go away. However, if she continues her quest and iof trying to insert herself into Paris’ life then she’ll only prove she is indeed a self-serving nut that needs to be avoided.

The passage wasn’t even that original. It clearly copied Robert Frost’s sentinments from his poem about two roads diverging in the woods. The idea of crossroads in our lives is hardly unique. It’s in just about every poem, song or literary work ever written about life changing experiences. Geez, this Judi-nut acts like she deserves a Pulitzer or Nobel peace prize.

So admin, dear, please let Judi-nut know her actions speak louder than her words and to please, just let it drop already. Otherwise, she will have outed herself as a nut with an agenda.

oh and it only “plagerism” if a copied work was previously published…was Judi-nut’s grand work previously published?

It is interesting that Paris did the interviews so quickly. I only saw bits of Larry King, but there’s an obvious contrast between that one and Ellen. Partly due to forum, King is a softball, but it also takes decent questions to get decent answers, and partly due to the lapse of time. (Probably couldn’t have months, but I thought juju made a good point about waiting some.) Wasn’t King’s first or second question, “why now”?

Did Paris get trapped in to Larry King, as the NBC and ABC paid interviews fell through and she didn’t want it to seem like she had no tv options (CBS and Fox claimed that they passed)? Or, did they really just want her to get out on tv asap?
