Paris Hilton’s Devassa commercial compaign temporarily suspended

Reported by Canoe

Advertisers have agreed to pull a controversial Brazilian beer commercial featuring Paris Hilton, following complaints about its sexist undertones.

The socialite sparked controversy last month, when she appeared on TV and internet ads rubbing a can of Devassa beer on herself in an office building as passers-by stare at her antics.

Despite being fully clothed throughout the ad, officials at Brazil’s Women’s Secretariat revealed authorities received several complaints about the “sensual nature” of the campaign. Meanwhile watchdog group, Conar, requested the ad be removed.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Devassa brewer Schincariol announced the commercial would be pulled temporarily, but defended the campaign.

A statement from Schincariol reads: “The company believes that the advertisement starring the model Paris Hilton doesn’t offend in any sense, any rule or orientation.”

This is so silly. I don’t know, maybe it’s in the Brazilian culture, but I honestly don’t see what’s wrong with the commercial? Is it the can rubbing? lol What is it?

It’s in the Brazilian culture to wear a string of fabric and say it’s a bathing suit. This is obviously a personal vendetta against Paris. I don’t see at all how it is sexist or degrading. It isn’t at all overly sexual. It’s barely sexual. She’s just rubbing it a little, being a bit cheeky. I doubt this would be the case if it was any other person in the commercial.

Oh and I did get the NITW video thank you (: sorry it took me a while to thank you I’ve been a bit busy lately but I have it and thank you!

It so has to do with just the fact that it’s Paris. The whole world can’t get that stereotypical image out of their heads of Paris. This commercial does have a sexy image but it’s tastefully done like everything Paris does. I understand way more why the Carl’s Jr commercial was banned than this.

They received a total of – count them – 4 complaints.

It’s ridiculous.

Next, the manufacturers really ought to invite Paris to pose in a bikini by the the beach, like in all the other Brazilian commercials.

Funny thing is – most Brazilian couples with children are not even legally married. LOL.

You would think THAT would be somethng for a a watchdog agency to complain about.
