A few comments about Kim Kardashian and other Paris Hilton friends

I’ve thinking about the whole idea about Kim Kardashian copying Paris Hilton, especially now that there are a lot of discussions about it, and I find it a bit silly.

First, we know that Kim wouldn’t have become famous if she hadn’t been photographed often enough with Paris. It is because of Paris that everyone knows the Kardashians. Sure, Kim followed the same path as Paris and launched a business empire, but is it fair to say that she “copied” her?

In a recent interview with Glamour magazine, Kim says: “I'd be foolish not to take some of these opportunities that are coming my way. We all know this can go away at any moment.” So if one of Paris’ friends gets a bit popular, why should she refuse accepting offers that would help build a brand? How can we know for sure that the friend is pretending to be friends with Paris in order to use her for personal gain?

Kim also says: “Five years ago we wrote down that it would be our dream for me to get a fragrance. And when [my mom] got the call [that it was happening], she was in tears. We have all these crazy goals, and when we achieve them, we're so much more excited because we put a lot into it.” Five years ago, that was 2005 when practically no one knew her. So maybe she did want to become famous and build an empire.

But then, she adds: “If you had asked me five years ago what I would be doing at 30, I would have said, ‘Married with a kid or two.’ Not in a million years did I dream that I would be doing all the things that I'm doing.” So that doesn’t make sense. She says she wanted to launch a fragrance (like Paris did), but then, she says she would’ve seen herself married with kids. Or maybe she wanted a mix of both?

By the way, Kim is not the only celebrity who is planning to build an empire like Paris did. An article published today reports that Snooki is also building her own brand by launching denim, sportswear, lingerie, handbags, personal care, beauty products, fragrances, swimwear, bedding and home goods. So should we accuse Snooki of copying Paris? Although I have to admit that to some extend, Kim strikingly acts likes Paris..

Okay, so let’s now check out Kim’s website and her comments on Paris. But before we do that, let’s remember that sometime in Spring 2008, Paris said some unexpected and nasty comments about Kim during a radio interview. But she immediately apologized, and Kim wrote in a blog message titled ‘No love lost between Paris and me’: “To set the record straight: Paris spoke to In Touch magazine about it and she did call me to apologize, which I really appreciated. The truth is, we went to preschool together and have been friends a long time, so there are no hard feelings.”

Prior to that incident, Kim used to write nice things about Paris on her blog. For example, on March 12, 2008, she wrote: “Just so you know, [Paris, Nicky and I] all grew up together and they are the sweetest girls. I've traveled the world with Paris and she is an amazing person. I've learned so much from her! She really showed me a lot. We went to Germany, Italy, the South of France, Australia, Austria… everywhere together! I will never forget it!”

However, she later stopped writing anything significant about Paris on her blog, that is after the incident. Then, in February 2009, In Touch reported that Kim and Paris were seen spending the night talking, laughing and dancing. But of course, In Touch isn’t always truthful, so we can’t check the accuracy of the report without evidence.

In my opinion, we’ll never know the whole truth unless we hear from both sides, which will never happen. And maybe this isn’t even an issue for both of them. You now have all the available facts, so now draw your own conclusion.

Interesting points. I just know one thing for certain…Paris does NOT like her AT ALL. I don’t even speak of her anymore!

thank you for that post. I think the whole feud is so stupid, especially the way some Paris fans have started to trash Kim. It is sooo rispectful! If Kim can make her fame last, there’s room for both in Hollywood. 🙂

I know. If it’s solely because Kim is more popular than her at the moment, then that’s a poor reason to dislike someone. I would also need better arguments to convince myself that Kim somehow used her for personal gain. But we don’t have all the facts.

There is no proof that there is a feud and there is no proof that Kim and Paris dislike each other.

Most of that stuff is made up by gossip sites, so who cares.

I can conform that there is a bad vibe between the two. I don’t know anything more than that.

did you hear Kim is coming out with a single? And guess what it’s titled, “Turn it up”. Ironic, huh?

Paris does not seem to be a jealous person. What do others think ?

Yes… It is ironic, but you guys really believe that Kim did it deliberately? That she actually sat down and looked at Paris’ track list and picked Turn It Up and said to herself, I want to sing “turn it up, turn it up” and make the song’s title Turn It Up? She probably didn’t even write the song, although we don’t know that for sure. The song doesn’t sound like Paris’.

I just think it’s such a childish move that it’s hard for me to believe that an adult would do it deliberately.

A lot of people copy Paris while denying that they do so.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery LOL.

But there is only one Paris Hilton.

@Jen I know for a fact that Paris doesn’t like Kim. She wants nothing to do with her, trust me.

This is a bit unneccesary but since it’s here, I guess I’ll add my opinion. It’s common for people in Hollywood to mirror anothers career moves, they can learn from the other persons mistakes and step up (look at all the pop stars from the late 90’s/early 00’s, also all the Disney stars). Kim probably would’ve become famous, their mother is blood-thirsty for fame and success, so it would’ve happened eventually but the attention Kim got because of her friendship with Paris was a booster, for sure. You can’t deny that. Paris’ whole circle of friends got a lot of attention thanks to her popularity. Some successfully took advantage of it (Nicole, Kim …others) and some, not so much (Kim Stewart, I’m looking at you). I don’t believe there is feud, I doubt the thought of each other crosses either of them. But comparisons are kind of unnavoidable.

I am quite bias to a degree because I don’t like Kim Kardashian, flat out. I resent what she represents and it irks me that she has the more positive public persona when she actually represents a lot more negative things. To be quite rude, I see that whole family as a bunch rats. Successful, well put together and overly photoshopped rats, but still rats. They’re (Hollywood) smart and have made some fucking fantastic business moves but to think that Kim (and her family) didn’t see her friendship with Paris as a win/win would be a little naive.

Also, Turn It Up is really cliche when it comes to music. So many fucking songs have used the term. But, my point is, Paris’ is an urban-dance anthem and Kim’s is a mediocre electro-pop song that would’ve been kind of decent had it been released in 2009. If you want to hear a good electro-pop song titled Turn It Up, go listen to the one by Ciara who actually worked hard for her music career.

Scot, if I may ask, what is it exactly that you don’t like about Kim? What are the negative things that she represents?

I don’t know her that well, but I’ve seen how hard she has worked to build up her brand. I’ll even assume that she worked harder than Paris last year. I also see her as the type who would put her name on any random product just to cash in a bit. She even as far as posing in Playboy (something Paris has never done, and should be proud of!). Paris isn’t that aggressive. Nevertheless, Kim is still very successful at what she does.

I think Kim is everything that the majority of the public think Paris is. Obviously I don’t know Kim personally and she probably is a lovely woman, it’s just a lot of things about her that I’ve come across that rub me the wrong way. I do get annoyed as a Paris fan that Kim is seen in a more positive light, I admit that. But some of the things about Kim that I don’t like are: She has done interviews and while she hasn’t right out said negative comments about Paris, when hinted at things regarding Paris, Kim has responded with comments that make it seem like she sits higher then Paris, like laughing off ever attempting a music career or commenting how she ‘never’ drinks and then contradicting these comments. The amount of cosmetic surgery she has had is quite sad but for her then to promote self confidence… I mean look at various photos of her throughout the years, you cannot deny she has had A LOT of work done. Paris has always given a very positive message of be yourself, be confident and comfortable with that. Paris could’ve easily ‘fixed’ things about herself that could be considered flaws but she always stayed herself. Kim promotes products purely to be the face of something. I mean, Paris has had her fair share of unneccesary business partnerships but has Paris ever released an incredibly dodgey credit card or has her clothing line ever been proved to have stolen designs from a high end brand? No. There’s no doubt that Kim and her family have worked hard and I acknowledge that Kim’s game has been top shelf but there are just little things about Kim that I don’t like, and when they come all together. I just can’t really say anything positive.

I’m not saying Paris is better then Kim or anything like that. I know Paris has made mistakes and a lot of the examples I’ve given, Paris has done the same. I personally just do not like (the brand, the public persona that is) Kim Kardashian. Perhaps, the same way some people just don’t like ~Paris Hilton~ but hopefully what I said makes sense and I don’t just come across like I’m hating for the sake of hating.

Do you have videos or articles where Kim disses Paris directly or indirectly? If you don’t it’s ok. I just don’t want you to go through the trouble of searching them! I’ve read articles about her dissing her music, things like that. But I’ve never posted them here because the sources were entirely unreliable. You have to be careful of what you read.

Honestly i give the person who wrote this some credit. Every other Paris site disses kim. Saying she copied paris etc….truth be told the first time Kim was seen in the lime light was with nick lachey, then a week later she was seen with Paris. Im sorry but paris knew kim was getting attention, thats how the hollywood game works, someone who hangs with someone famous is obviously going to get photographed and followed. Then that person becomes interesting to the paps and fans. Kim Kardashian is a total different character than Paris. They have similar fame. I wouldnt say Kim is copying paris, because of that itself….I dont care what anyone says Kim deserves some respect.
