Official Filming of Repo! Begins

The new film musical, “Repo! The Genetic Opera,” has begun filming in Toronto, Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate announced Monday.

Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed the three “Saw” sequels for Twisted Pictures, is directing the film from a screenplay by Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith, co-creators of the original “Repo!” stage production.

Japanese songwriter and composer Yoshiki is producing the movie’s soundtrack, while recording artist and stage performer Sarah Brightman will make her feature film debut, acting alongside Anthony Head, Paris Hilton, Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega.

Bousman previously directed the Los Angeles stage production of “Repo!” in 2002.

“I’m very excited to be bringing this story to life with each of these outstanding performers,” Bousman said in a statement. “They bring so much flair to ‘Repo’s’ bizarre fantasy world, while entirely disappearing into their shadowy characters.”

Set in the not-so-distant future, the story is about a biotech company that offers payment plans to customers who can’t buy new body parts outright in a world where organ failure has already wiped out millions. All financed organs are subject to default procedures, however, and a notorious team of organ repo men are charged with taking them back.
