LA POLICE CHIEF: PAPARAZZI PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN BETTER

SAYS CELEB ANTICS HAVE SLOWED DOWN

AP, July 31, 2008 LOS ANGELES - Police Chief William Bratton said Thursday the city has had fewer problems with paparazzi since Britney Spears "started wearing clothes" and other celebrities changed their partying ways.

"If you notice, since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody anymore, thank God, and evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don't seem to have much of an issue," Bratton told KNBC-TV.

Bratton said the altered behavior makes proposals being considered for new laws to crack down on paparazzi an unnecessary "farce" because photogs who swarm neighborhoods and shopping districts have been losing interest in snapping stars in trouble.

"If the ones that attract the paparazzi behave in the first place, like we expect of anybody, that solves about 90 percent of the problem. The rest we can deal with," he said.

Bratton, wearing gray gym clothes with a towel around his neck, said he interrupted his workout to speak to a TV reporter after hearing Councilman Dennis Zine discussing possible new restrictions on freelance photographers. Zine was set to lead a meeting later in the day at City Hall to discuss ways to restrict aggressive paparazzi.

Officials from celeb enclaves in and around Los Angeles such as Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Malibu were to take part.

Bratton called the hearing "grandstanding and foolishness" and said he would not take part.

"We have sufficient laws on the books" to deal with aggressive paparazzi, he said.

Bratton later made similar remarks to other TV stations.

Zine said his concerns about paparazzi were prompted by the $25,000 that police spent to escort Spears from her Studio City home to a West Los Angeles medical center for a psychiatric evaluation in January.

Zine has authored a motion for the city to require a "personal safety zone" around celebs, but it has not yet been heard by the City Council. Bratton has said such an ordinance would be ambiguous and difficult to enforce.

In the past, the city has used existing ordinances to curb paparazzi. Earlier this month, for example, police arrested two photographers for loitering near Spears' home.

LAPD Chief: "Gay" LiLo, Clothed Brit, Behaving Paris Keep Paparazzi at Bay

E!, July 31, 2008 - Los Angeles' top cop believes problems concerning overly aggressive paparazzi have taken care of themselves, what with Hollywood's It girls generally curbing their bizarre, headline-grabbing antics.

Now if only police chiefs could exhibit similar restraint...

LAPD Chief William Bratton has spoken out—and how—against a proposal by a city councilman seeking to put in place new measures that restrict paparazzi. Bratton says the (alleged) behavior modifications of Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have made the proposal all but moot.

"If you notice, since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody anymore, thank god; and evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don't seem to have much of an issue," Bratton told KNBC, L.A.'s local NBC affiliate.

He went on to offer similar sentiments to several other local outlets, calling the would-be crackdown on paparazzi a "farce," and further claiming that interest in candid pics has already waned.

Miley Cyrus might beg to differ, but Bratton was on a roll.

"If the ones that attract the paparazzi behave in the first place, like we expect of anybody, that solves about 90 percent of the problem. The rest we can deal with."

Later today, Councilman Dennis Zane is set to host a meeting at City Hall to discuss possible ways to limit the seeming free reign of paparazzi. Officials from celeb-heavy neighborhoods are expected to attend.

For his part, Bratton branded the meeting "grandstanding and foolishness" and would protest in absentia, claiming the city already had "sufficient laws on the books" to deal with the camera-wielding press.

MY RESPONSE...

THE BEHAVIOR OF THE PAPS AND THE CELEBS MAY BE GETTING BETTER,
BUT THIS WORLD'S ATTITUDES TOWARD WOMEN STILL SUCK OUT LOUD

...There's no one left to finger
There's no one here to blame
There's no one left to talk to, honey
And there ain't no one to buy our innocence

Cause we are born innocents
Believe me, Adia
We are still innocents
It's easy, we all falter
But does it matter?

- Avril Lavigne's cover of Sarah McLachlan's, "Adia"

thewaymouth, Lindsay Lohan Fan Forum, July 31, 2008, LOS ANGELES - Back on June 7, 2007, when the LA Sheriff released Paris from jail the first time, PD Chief William Bratton backed the decision. He said Paris had already served more jail time than any other person would who had been convicted of the same offense. In fact he said the usual time spent in jail for such an offense would be about 2.5 days.

But the very next day, Paris was ordered by the court to go back to jail. She went on to serve ten times more than what anyone else would for the same offense.

And then after doing all that unfair time, followed by a year of spotless behavior, the LAPD Chief has the gall to turn around and rub her name in the mud? You mofo!

Paris, Lindsay and Britney are my 3 favorite girls. So I am defensive in my defense of them.

But what he said about them is so fucking patronizing and condescending. Such misogynist BS. And it's a ridiculous lie.

How was it THEIR fault the paps were out of control?

We're not even talking about "setting an example for the kids," like the ninnies say stars are supposed to do. Oh, no. Now the celebs have to set a good example for their fellow adults. And if the girls don't tow the line, then it's their own fault when the paps run roughshod and upset the community.

So I guess that means if any of the three of them "slips" and "causes any trouble" in the future, that gives the paps full excuse to go hog wild again. What a bunch of hogwash.

The paps cannot be held responsible. Nor can the police be held to task, to do their damn jobs and enforce the privacy laws. That is what the LAPD chief apparently believes.

Let's say he is right, and not completely full of it, as I think he is. Because I have a brain, and we have a Declaration of Independence, that states Americans have the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

But who watchers the watchers? Who has to protect us from the protectors? Ourselves, that's who.

For the moment, however, we'll let the chief go on with making his own laws of uncommon sense. If the paps' restraint is actually supposed to be based on good behavior shown by women, then this is a symptom of a lager problem.

The moralizing media pays the paps the big bucks to get them the damn hot shots of women behaving badly. Why is that? The general, lowest-common-denominator hater public, demands that women get condemned. Because we need our scapegoats.

Meanwhile, men behaving badly are just boys being boys. It's always all ways, Eve's fault for Adam's fall from Grace.

What a pile of bile. Adults are responsible for their own actions in a "free society." If the paps break the law, don't blame the celeb. If the hunter breaks the rules, don't blame the prey.

E! even hinted that the LAPD chief's rant was out of control, but they did not take him to task for it. Well, allow me to retort.

If the paps act like assholes they have themselves to blame. The blame could then be spread out to the greedy media, and the self-righteous customers who devour their BS.

Bratton is the chief of police of the country's second largest city. According to Wikipedia, LA leads the world in producing popular entertainment — such as motion picture, television, internet content, video games and recorded music — which forms the base of its international fame and global status.

That the LAPD chief can talk so openly so ridiculously, so erroneously, so insultingly of women, and not get called on it, makes me sick.

Paris, Lindsay and Britney haven't killed or permanently injured anybody. So stop blaming them for the world's ills. Stop with all the tongue-clucking, head-shaking and finger-wagging.

Remember when Lindsay and Paris hooked up with Britney back in November of 2006? Just prior to that, each of them had been declared by the blogosphere to be on the list of the most hated celebs in Hollywood (Paris in at No. 1, Lindsay No. 2, and Brit No. 6).

So here are my two favorite stars, Paris and Lindsay, getting along again. This was cause enough for celebration. Then their reaching out to Brit, making friends with another member of the most hated celeb club, that was when I actually became a big Britney fan. That these objects of all that unfair, jealous hatred, were coming together as friends, made me love all three of them all the more.

Yeah, they partied and got very silly together. So what? They didn't break any laws. I thought it was the greatest thing. They were so entertaining. I was so bummed when they split up.

Turns out of course, I was in a very small minority...

Remember when the New York Post expressed the nation's condemnation:

Quote:
3 BIMBOS OF THE APOCALYPSE -
NO CLUE, NO CARES, NO UNDERWEAR: MEET THE PARTY POSSE OF THE YEAR

"Bimbos," "No clues..." Well, f*ck you and your asinine misogynist blame game, too!

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld had lied and led this country into an illegal immoral bloody war, but they took less shit than these three.

I admit that Paris had been arrested - for the first time ever - for a DUI that previous September. But at that point that was the only arrest on the records of any of them.

It wasn't until 2007 that their lives became a bit unraveled. But even then, they weren't a bunch of evil marauders. But they were treated like it.

I do not blame the girls' subsequent unrestrained episodes in 2007 on the relentless scrutiny and finger-wagging. But you try living in a climate where you haven't done anything that bad, but the entire world thinks you're "wild and woolly sluts," as Bette Midler called them then.

Such a poisonous atmosphere like that could make you feel like, well, I don't know what I've done but everyone hates me and thinks I'm scum, so does it really matter what I do anymore?

And then after I pay for my "crimes" - jail time and probation for Paris and Lindsay, loss of custody of her kids for Britney - and I turn my life around, walk the narrow line, what do I get? Still shit.

To his credit, although I don't like the way he said it, in a backhanded way the chief seems to be complimenting Lindsay and Britney. Apparently he equates being gay with being a good thing. Or it was just a bizarre aside. But it doesn't seem to bother him. He had no complaints for Linds. In regard to Britney, he seemed to be suggesting that he doesn't like crotch shots, but since she's stopped doing that and started behaving, he's happy.

As far as his "outing" Lindsay, I am of the opinion that she had gone bi over a year ago. And he is just giving his opinion. But then again, he is a public figure, and is speaking on the record. I am not a gay person, but I believe some would find offense.

Hell, Britney may find offense with his saying she's "wearing clothes" now. As opposed to what? That she was always naked before? Please. Plus, she was actually the last one of the three to get in on the whole go commando in public thing.

Bratton apparently thinks the two of them are "behaving." Oh, but not Paris.

Bratton is especially insulting to Miss Hilton. But isn't that always the way it goes? Britney and Lindsay are good girls. But the only reason there is not a problem with Paris, is because she's not even around to bother people. "Thank God," he says.

Because that's all she ever does. Bother people. Because to the world she's evil incarnate. And the leopard can't change her spots. But then she's a black leopard.

BS! Paris is in town. Actually most of the time, just about as much as the other two. She has even been out and about at the nightclubs, a lot more than the other two.

She does not drink and drive anymore apparently. But then she was only ever stopped for it just the one time.

You could say Paris has been the most well-behaved of the three of them. If you must get morally judgmental. Lindsay hijacked somebody's truck and high-speed chased a woman down. Britney was deemed a danger to herself and others.

Paris hasn't been bothering anyone. She's NEVER bothered anyone. But she has to always take the most blame.

It all burns me up. It makes me mad and sad. It makes me want to cry tears and shout in anger at the same time.

I hate cops. I hate the meanness in this fucking stupid world.

Goodbye

Hello Mother and Father,

I am writing to tell you that this is the last time that you will ever hear from me. Since my induction into the Church of the SubGenius my eyes have been opened to many truths. Reverend Stang and Doktor Mister Sister have been counseling me almost non-stop. They have explained to me that you are EVIL, and that after this final letter to you, I must never have contact with you again. You are EVIL because of the oil that you squander and pollute the Earth with. You are EVIL because of your shoulder-to-the-grindstone work ethic, wasting your lives in the shallow pursuit of material wealth. You are EVIL because of the pain and suffering that your way of life causes the impoverished peoples of third world countries. You are EVIL because you made me clean my room before I could go out with my friends.

I want you to know that though I HATE YOU, I'll always love you. Don't try to find me; I'm very happy here in my closet assembling SubGenius Wall Clocks and other Swag. I have to go now because I have to work on increasing my production or Rev. Magdalena won't give me my daily carrot and alfalfa sprig.

I'LL BE
GLAD WHEN
YOU'RE
DEAD.

Love,
Artemia

Hmmm... If there were no murders this week, would that mean that no laws against murder would be required after all? If the bully victims are off school and the bullies have noone to bully does that mean that it was the victims who were the real source of trouble? Can a LAPD Chief really be that naive and idiotic (I know he's probably just trying to avoid work, time or money being paid towards new proposals)? What's so wrong with being pre-emptive in defensive measures rather than waiting until "well how was I to know that was going to happen?"

P.S. I share the frustration about Paris always being centred out and picked on and the worse antics of others get ignored. Paris doesn't bother or harm anyone and yet to most of the world she's Hitler or Stalin.

Excellent points, Django.
And well said, too.
Cheers!
