Subject: MAXIM 'SCREWED' PARIS 2ND YR IN ROW - Call for BOYCOTT of HOT 100

I usually buy this issue and watch this show. But not this year. Enough is enough...

On Tuesday May 27, VH1 airs the premier of the TV version of the Hot 100 annual special issue from Maxim, America's top men's magazine.

With its June 2008 issue, Maxim presents "the ultimate list of the world's most beautiful women," or "the 100 most astoundingly attractive specimens occupying this planet."

Other than that description, Maxim offers no explanation of how it choose the list. (This year's Hot 100 list to follow.)

For the second year in a row, Paris Hilton did not make the cut. This is BS.

So let's just look at the facts.

- 2005 [Maxim] "The smell of success continues for Paris Hilton. The Heiress recently starred in "House of Wax," released a new perfume and received No. 20 on this year's Maxim list."

- 2006 [Maxim] "When she's not losing her toy pet animals, telephone equipment, private videotapes, boyfriends, and undergarments, Paris is making movies like House of Wax and writing books (with words in them!). And you thought she was just a pretty face." She comes in at No. 38.

- 2007: Paris appears to have fallen off the face of the year and the earth, as she is not on the list at all.

- 2008. Ditto.

No reason is given from Maxim.

Note that despite this lack of respect, Maxim Germany nonetheless just put Paris on the cover of its issue for April, 2008. (Pic to follow.)

In 2008, next to only Britney Spears, Paris attracts (there's that word again) more attention than any woman on the planet. That's the fact, Jack.

Last spring Britney did not make the "hottest" cut either. Then in October 2007, Britney came in 5th place on Maxim's list of "The Unsexiest Women Alive." Contributing to Brit’s “unsexiness,” the magazine cited her two kids, two ex-husbands, a slight weight gain and “losing the ability to perform.” Paris was not however on that "unsexy" list.

Yet now somehow Britney comes in 19th place on this year's Hot 100.

If we are going to consider "character" issues, Britney's reappearance on the list seems to indicate that consideration is not that big a deal. Never mind that Lindsay Lohan finished 9th this year in the Hot 100, and actually topped the list last year. (Article considering that, to follow.)

Besides Maxim does not say that character is a factor anyway. So if we're talking strictly beauty, when was the last time Britney did a "hot" photo shoot? If Paris was No. 38 in 2006, did her "hotness" completely disappear in the following year?

BTW, last year on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World, Paris did not make the cut. But this year she came in at No. 77.

FHM's list is chosen by voters on line, and Maxim's by the magazine. Of course I myself voted at FHM for Paris (and Lindsay and Britney) in my Top 10 both last year and this.

To me there is no doubt that Maxim is being totally ridiculous. Something is just not right.

Just look at this year's list. Most of the women have not appeared on the cover of Maxim. Like Paris. (She was on the Maxim US cover in April, 2004.) I could go on & on about so many of the women on the list, about how could they possibly be considered ahead of Paris. With women who are up to 10 years older than Paris, have nowhere near the buzz that Paris has, and are nowhere near as gorgeous as Paris.

Starting with No. 100. But don't get me started.

Young bad & hot!

Lindsay Lohan tops Maxim mag's list of the 100 most wanted

By DAVID HINCKLEY
DAILY NEWS COLUMNIST

Wednesday, May 16th 2007, 4:00 AM

Lindsay Lohan is bad and she's hot. You gotta love that in a gal.

Especially if you're the editors or readers of Maxim magazine, which yesterday placed Lohan No. 1 on its annual "Hot 100" list, edging out Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera while dropping two-time champion Eva Longoria to No. 9.

Lohan's feat is especially impressive when viewed in the context of another piece of news that broke yesterday about a young female celebrity.

The unavoidable Paris Hilton, it seems, was photographed smoking a joint last month at the Coachella Music Festival.

On top of Paris' upcoming engagement at the Big House, that would seem to make her a prime candidate for the Maxim list - if being young, rich and out of control were the only criteria.

Apparently they aren't. Paris didn't make the list at all.

Nor is sheer heat itself the primary criterion, or Shakira would not be only No. 38.

No, Lohan seems to combine an intangible set of qualities that enable her to steam up young men's windshields even in those brief moments when her life doesn't resemble a roller coaster barreling downhill on one rail.

For someone who used to model for Toys "R" Us and got her big break in a Disney film, she has built an impressive behavioral dossier the past couple of years.

There were the three car crashes and the incoherent condolence note she sent after Robert Altman's death. There were the "Lazy Lohan" jokes after her producers told her she'd better start partying a little less and showing up for work a little more.

There was that interlude with bulimia, which she described as just a passing flirtation. She 'fessed up to a spot of drug use and admitted she was trying to quit smoking while she was doing antismoking public service spots.

There was a visit to rehab and apparently more than one visit to Alcoholics Anonymous, before the March altercation that yesterday led a New York photographer to file a lawsuit.

Meanwhile, she's working on modeling, acting and singing careers while also finding quality time to hang out with Paris.

Perhaps most amazing of all, she doesn't even turn 21 until July 2. Imagine what her résumé will look like when she's, say, 30.

The rest of the Maxim list is sprinkled with young women from various walks of life - though winning Rhodes scholarships and organizing food banks seems to be a less powerful argument than celebrity.

The Simpsons are there, Jessica and Ashlee. Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightly and Cameron Diaz are in the top 20.

Further down, the list gets to Ivanka Trump and Kelly Ripa.

Kim Kardashian, one of Paris' best girlfriends, sneaks in at No. 97, presumably in part on the strength of a leaked sex tape.

Of course, Paris did one of those years ago.

In the end, maybe Maxim's list simply confirms the timeless wisdom of that original media-age bad girl, Brooklyn's own Mae West, who in the 1933 film "I'm No Angel" remarked to a gentleman friend, "When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad, I'm better."

24. Avril Lavigne

???

Seriously? Avril? That 15 year old looking sell-out is on the top?

For FHM's 2008 100 Sexiest Women, I voted Avril Lavigne as my No. 1.

(You'll be happy to know that FHM voters were not in agreement. She got screwed like Paris - Avril did not make the cut for the FHM list.)

- Avril BTW, is 23 years old.

- She is hot as hell.

- Her most recent album "The Best Damn Thing" sold 5 million copies worldwide by the end of 2007 according to the IFPI and globally it was the fourth biggest selling album for 2007.

As far as accusations of her "selling out":

- Avril's music & video & concerts have always been "for sale."
She was strongly accused of being a sell-out/fake-punk when she started out.
Can't a girl get a break? She's experimenting, going through phases & changes.
Because she is an artist, because she feels like it.
As she said in a recent interview, she runs her ship.
Avril is independent, in command, the captain on deck & she's letting her freak flag fly high.
In her own words, she's "gonna freak out, let it go."

I keep seeing comments all over, people complaining that Avril's new sound is "bubblegum."
Well, take it away, Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando in the movie, Streetcar Named Desire):
- "& do you know what I say? Ha ha! Do you hear me? Ha ha ha!"

Thanks, Marlon. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Yeah, some of her new shit is light, it shines so damn bright,
it is as fabulously fun as a heavenly hell,
some of the best spanking gum you've ever tasted,
& wtf is wrong w/that?

Avril is the Queen of the Pop-Rock World,
& what a hot rock chick to roll & rule us.
"Like it or not, you won't get any better" - gotta have Avril.
She is going to do & sing what she wants
because she can.
do.it.better.
You can climb aboard her ship and enjoy the ride & the rise as she sets sail for the heart of her sunsets,
or you can choose to drown down in the sea of your own pissing & moaning.
Because right now no one can top her.
Or stop her.
& someday she'll be gone for good
& you'll have blown your chance to dance
w/this most mad rad, glorious gladness.

I agree that it's ludicrous that Paris is getting screwed over by these magazines and how shamelessly the magazines and much of their readership can just turn on someone for no real reason. I have no interest in such magazines and don't feel they ever really reflect my taste or opinions (and any nice pictures you can usually find on the internet). Not impressed by that list which also manages to miss out a few of my other favourites (Milla Jovovich, Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie most notably and others like Mia Kirshner, Diane Kruger). There's only really a handful of women on the list that I'd rate highly (and only a few more that I actually recognise).

I would certainly boycott if I wasn't already a non consumer and at odds with them in the first place.

I have to mention that she was "hotter" when she was younger, but now she is more on the "beautiful" side rather than "hot." There's a difference in my opinion.

Hot
A characteristic that basically means that you want to do her, and not much else. It basically means that the "hot" girl's major quality is her body. It also implies that she has a personality that could be called "hot." Paris's personality was sort of like that, wearing skimpy-ish outfits to places and whatnot. It's hard to explain.

Beautiful
A "beautiful" girl is someone who looks great, but she doesn't have the kind of look that immediately gives you an erection. She has positive physical characteristics, but those characteristics don't overshadow her other potential qualities.

I'd call Kendra Wilkinson "hot" simply because she's an airhead and I can't stand anything else about her. Paris is beautiful to me because she doesn't just have physical qualities, but she also has a sweet personality.

It's hard to explain.

Last year the Paris hater (remember the 2007 MTV Movie Awards?) came in 29th on Maxim's Hot 100. Talk about a joke.

Oh, that's OK. No need to apologize. You're entitled to your opinion. We're cool.

As you can tell from my comment, I am quite used to running into similar opinions of Avril. Just like with Paris, I am quite familiar with defending Avril. It was a stock response. The Reflex.

It seems I spend most of my time online - and even some in real life - defending Paris, Avril, Lindsay, Britney, Ashlee, et al. Gives me one more thing to live for and fight for.

I quite like Avril's early music. I just think an artist is not obliged to repeat the same thing over & over. If an artist never took risks, but remained constant - if Avril tried to repeat the success of Let Go over & over, to capitalize on a formula that already works - that could be considered even more of a sell-out than daring to do something different & be original each time out.

If Avril is indeed a sell-out, it could be said she is a failure at selling out. Her debut album Let Go sold 16 million copies worldwide. Then her second album Under My Skin sold 8 million copies. And her latest The Best Damn Thing sold 5 million copies. So by changing her style, it is actually costing her.

Of course, in the light of the fact every year less and less CD's are being bought - in Spin's June '08 issue, it is reported that 58% of music in the US is downloaded for free - The Best Damn Thing could be considered a remarkable success.

Finally, Avril's first two albums are about struggle - for survival and integrity, and overcoming romantic rejection. So by the time of her third album, she is in a different place in her life (successful & married), and so she wants to be true to herself. To cut loose from the past, have fun & celebrate her freedom, as well as try on something different. I do think her best albums are her first two, but there is a lot of enjoyment to be found in her latest hot shit.

I used to really like Christina Aguilera. I thought Dirrty was awesome but I can't stand Back to Basics. But then I don't like retro blues or whatever it is she does on it. But that's all right. I just choose not to listen to it. I am not mad at her. I may like her music one day again.

In the final analysis, I feel Avril, like Paris and Christina, owes me and her fans nothing. She can do what she wants artistically. If I don't like it I'll move on.

But that's just me.

[Boondocks] Riley: "Ooh man, I can't wait for niggas to start hatin, I can't wait...
Hey, if niggas ain't mad at you then you be doin something wrong."

[thewaymouth] Peace Love & Understanding, Girlfriend.
Rock on, Nicole.

Well personally, I think Paris is the hottest woman in the world. I can't believe there's guys out there that don't find her hot in (for instance) her reclining bikini publicity shots from The Hottie & The Nottie, but each to their own.

My own Top 20 at the moment would probably go like this:

20. Jennifer Garner
19. Mia Kirshner
18. Keira Knightley
17. Eliza Dushku
16. Sarah Michelle Gellar
15. Eva Green
14. Elisha Cuthbert
13. Shannon Lucio
12. Mischa Barton
11. Lucy Pinder
10. Maggie Grace
9. Diane Kruger
8. Keeley Hazell
7. Angelina Jolie
6. Gwen Stefani
5. Shirley Manson
4. Rebecca Romijn
3. Naomi Watts
2. Milla Jovovich
1. Paris Hilton

I've never understood the term of "selling out" as most of the time it just seems to be a lazy insult. What did the artist publically buy into in the first place? There can be few artists in the world who want their music to not sell well and not find more fans. The only consideration for me, is whether I like the music or not. How commercial or uncommercial it is isn't necessarily a guarantee of how much I'll like it and ultimately I think artists just make the music they want to make.

* Among The Max Factors I Consider:

- Her Story
- "Hated" (as in I cannot help but show love to the most hated)
- Beauty
- Sexuality
- Personality
- Charisma
- Talent
- Art (and/or, Work)

As far as Paris goes, it's been nearly two years now since she put out new work that impressed me - her debut album, "Paris". Specifically, September 2006, when she Paris released the CD's last video-single, "Nothing In This World." As far as "Paris" goes, I think it was the album of the year put out by the artist of the year. Alas, no new Paris music appears to be on the near horizon.

Earlier this week, BTW, Lindsay put out her first new musical offering in nearly 2 & 1/2 years, the bitchin' single, "Bossy." Her new album, her third, is scheduled for a fall release. And she has said in a few interviews, that for the first time ever she will tour. I can't hardly wait. At that point she will likely become my lucky number one.

I wrote to Paris when she was in prison last year and told her she should do a club tour. I even suggested she go out on the road on a double-bill with Lindsay. As neither of them had toured before, I said it could not help but be a smash.

It looks like Paris is leaving it to Lindsay to take it to the people, to take it to the limit. To have the most fabulously fun tour in the history of pop.
