TMZ has learned that the Los Angeles judge who sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in the slammer was given a saint's welcome by his fellow parishoners ... with a standing ovation on his weekend visit to church!

Sources inside tell TMZ that Judge Michael T. Sauer entered the St. Brendan church in Los Angeles and was greeted with a holy round of standing applause!

Judge Sauer ended his workday on Friday by sentencing Paris Hilton to 45 days in county jail, ordering the wayward heiress to turn herself in on June 5 at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood.

Can I get a witness!!!

The above articulated response of outrage bit was from my MySpace blog on May 5, 2007.
The below commentary was written right here and now by thewaymouth.

So you may be asking yourself, why dredge up the nasty?

We're here to celebrate Paris.

And so I am. In doing so we must always be vigilant for justice, we must never forget injustice - the law needs to be watched, our friends need our support - Paris got screwed for real on May 4, 2007.

And because as bad as it all was, some great good came of it. I wish she hadn't had to suffer. But Paris rebounded, not unscathed, but overall in a big, positive way - she's more careful in her personal life, and is more famous and more successful than ever. And more dear to us.

It brought me closer to her.

Now back in 2006, Paris had already become my favorite star, my Number 1 MySpace Top Friend, for several reasons - her marvelous modeling work, her fun and sweet book, but mostly for her awesome album "Paris." Then when that album was panned and pranked, I started writing to the newspapers and blogging online everywhere of my love and admiration of Paris.

In the fall of 2006, Paris was cattily voted by the blogosphere, the most hated celeb in Hollywood. So of course then that meant she just had to be my most loved. I'm like that.

I went to those celeb hater sites and took 'em all the f--- on.

Then in December '06 I read, cherished and defended her creativity and sweetness in her leaked private letters to former boyfriend Nick Carter. I cheered out loud for her late '06 "wild and woolly" friendship with Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, numbers 2 and 6, respectively, on that most hated in Hollywood list.

Then all the crap that happened to her in '07, just kept drawing me closer in to Paris, and drawing me out further to defend my dearest damsel in distress.

May 4 2007 is but one of many days of infamy/ hall of shame/ bad memories/ the horrors/ the mean reds, of injustice done to Paris. And thus, therefore, her fans.

I consider June 8, 2007, the absolute worst day of all. The day of ultra infamy. But May 4, 2007 comes in second place. The sentence was most unfair to the most fair. (More on that later, other than I second her lawyer's response to her sentence, listed in the story above.)

I bought and started wearing Free Paris T-shirts, put a Free Paris bumper sticker on my car (it's still there). I blogged at my MySpace. I defended her everywhere online and in my life. I started signing petitions.

And that's how I wound up here for the first time. I started writing at Paris Hilton Site a ton. Enkil answered my rants and ravings. I came to truly admire the site, and have ever since, as the best celeb fan site on the net.

I started adding just about anyone at MySpace that liked or defended Paris. We supported each other and Paris.

I wrote Paris all the time on her MySpace. After June 8, 2007, I wrote Paris several times in jail. They were poems of support and praise. I wrote them with tears streaming. I wrote them with pride.

I later heard back from her.

When Paris was released from jail it was so sublime, so exhilarating, so other-worldly.

It was the worst of times, it was the best of times.

I've never felt closer to someone I don't know.

Paris is a most charismatic star, a divine artist , a hot muse, a beautiful person.

So if you will bear with me - and I welcome anyone and everyone else to join in and add, or do their own thing - in the next two months or so I will recall now and again, those two memorable months of a year ago. I will be revisiting them in my mind anyway, so why not share.

I will bear witness to the pain and injustice. I will celebrate the joy, of her fans coming together in fellowship and support of the ultimate triumph of the greatness that was shown by and is,
Paris.

I wrote a poem about her when she was in jail, I think it's appropriate to post it here:

That was such a bad time. I was so disgusted at the hate and felt so helplessly sad and humiliated for Paris's plight. I went through some bad stuff myself, but focusing on Paris helped me overcome my own problems. Even in jail, Paris was helping me as she had been since I first saw an episode of The Simple Life. I don't believe in imaginary beings in the sky and I know I said my last prayer when my mother died. But in Paris I believe in at least one angel. I hope nothing as bad as that ever happens to Paris again.

i remember that day: 1 year ago...a really hard and bad period started for me, but especially for Paris...when the result of this sentence arrived, a black screen of pain and sufference came down in front of me...The first thing i did was to cry...i always cried every day, every hour, every moment...i just said..."why?Why are they doing this infamous thing?She doesn't deserve it!"
the anger grew up every day that passed and i wanted the judge to be punished for that sentence...they just wanted a "scapegoat" to punish celebrities' mistakes(let's see Lindsay Lohan for example: she had much more problem with the law than Paris, but she stay in jail just 1hour!it was so infamous!They were treating Paris as the worst criminal in LA.I hate that!)and they punish Paris just they wanted to ruin her public image, her empire, her life and her person!...i've never stopped to love her and i always supported her in this bad period...I prayed for her every night, i sent a letter for her, because we fans had to help her to face this sentence and to fight for her...i always defended her with any ways when people told me the sentence was right and she deserved it(these people are so jealous!) and i quarrelled with some of my friends for this...if i could go back i'd do every thing i did for her, because my one love is Paris...But so, when she was released at last it was the best day of my life!To watch her eyes, her smile, her happiness, her hug with her mom was the best thing i've ever seen...I love you, Paris, and i'll never stop to love you

Yeah, a lot of people went unpunished for what they did. thewaymouth, I think that's a very accruate and interesting report. I remember that day very well. I was at a dental clinic because the dentist had to remove my baby teeth. So I was already in great pain, but then, my mom told me the final verdict about Paris. I just couldn't believe it. All along, I was hoping that the media hype wouldn't influence the judge.

There's no doubt that Paris was treated unfairly, but it sucks that no one wanted to talk about it. Even Paris kept her mouth shut because of the ignorant public.

I think the whole experience tells you a lot about the public and how they are. Seriously, the general public isn't wise or honest. Even though they can't see it, they can be very cruel and rude, including the media people. And they think they're better than Paris!

Thanks to Kyle Richards for that interview she did with FOX. It helped clarify a lot of things.

Anyway, that was one year ago. I can't believe time has passed so fast. It was such a bad time because Paris was at the top of her career with the album launch. I say all that media coverage should've been devoted to her music career, ah!

I remember being so upset when I heard about Nicole Richie's and Lindsay Lohan's sentencing. They both did MUCH worse things than Paris did but yet they both only got a slap on the wrist basically. All they did was serve maybe 2 hours in jail. Big whoop. What Paris did especially in comparison with them wasn't that bad at all but yet she got the most jail time? She got like the maximum amount of time a person can get for that type of offense and it was just her first offense and her BAC was BARELY over the legal limit. I mean I'm NOT advocating drunk driving in ANY way but it's not like she was sloppy, pass out drunk or something. And then like I said when you compare it to Nicole Richie or Lindsay and the jail time both those girls got it's really unfair. Blah. Sometimes the legal system is so screwed up.

Thankfully though that was a year ago.

Reading what people have written at the time of this awful anniversary strikes a lot of chords in my own heart. I was devastated and angry, and I cried for her - how could it be right that someone so good and so wonderful should have to go through pain like that. She never deserved it, and it felt terrible to be so (relatively) powerless about it. I could write letters to her and sign petitions and write to Arnie S. (and I did all that) but all I really wanted to do was put my arms around her and tell her things would be ok, and take way her pain.

In a strange way, though, I think it brought her closer to the fans. All the people who wrote to her helped her through the toughest time of her life, and we can all be proud that we were able to do that. As Paris89Hilton says, when she got out and was reunited with her mum - wow, a different kind of tear came to my eyes.

Paris should never have had to go through what she did. But she was so brave and she found the inner strength and courage to get through it, helped by the love of her family, friends and fans - the people who appreciate her and care for her. And she's gone on from strength to strength in the time since she came out - she has never bowed to the jealousy or the hatred and never will. Now I hope with all my heart that Paris will never know such pain again.
